Review: Tornados Snack Food

I was driving to work this morning and once again realized I was starting to run low on gas. I decided to put $5 in the tank (enough to last me a couple days) and, while at the gas station, decided to see what they were offering for breakfast options.

As I walked inside, I noticed they had something somewhat different for sale; sausage, egg and cheese Tornados. Seeing they were only $1 each, I decided to give them a try.

I have tried a variety of different foods from this particular gas station before, including some well-known brands. And, for the most part, I have been very happy with my previous purchases. However, when it came to this product, I was extremely disappointed.

One of the first things I noticed about the Tornados was the size. They had a bit less quantity than the foods I normally would buy for about that price. However, I have been fooled before and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately, unlike so many other foods, they were not deceptively filling. Instead, they were the exact opposite. There was not much inside them in terms of fillings. I saw some sausage but did not see any cheese or egg; at least not in a significant quantity. As a result, the tornado proved to be pretty unsatisfying. I probably would have needed to eat a second one just to feel like I had a decent sized breakfast.

When I bought this product, the packaging promised a “whirlwind of flavor” and, it wasn’t lying. However, when it talks about flavor, what it really means is the tornados are very spicy. As I have said in the past, I don’t mind spicy foods and even go out of my way to have them on occasions.

However, I am not a huge fan of spicy foods first thing in the morning; especially when I’m not warned in advance. And, this wasn’t even because of the sausage inside the Tornado; I tasted the spiciness before I got to that.

Overall, I am glad I gave this product a try; mostly because I have seen boxes of these at one of our stores and was considering buying them in bulk. Now that I have tried it, however, I can honestly say this will be an item I won’t be purchasing again; at least not as a breakfast food.
